What is sealcoating?
Sealcoating is a coal tar sealing agent that is applied to asphalt to protect it from damage and prolong its life. Modern day asphalt is a great product and can last 20 to 30 years with proper care, part of which is properly sealcoating every 2-3 years.[ top ]
Why should I have my driveway sealcoated?
There are many benefits to sealcoating. Here are a few:Acts as a Moisture Barrier to protect blacktop from damage caused by the freeze/thaw cycle.
Protects Asphalt from Sun Damage which creates raveling and cracking, allowing water penetration and damage.
Resists Gas & Oils which can soften, weaken and destroy asphalt pavement.
Adds Value and Beauty to your home and landscape with that new driveway look and feel.
Saves Money by protecting your investment. It is far more cost effective to maintain asphalt with sealcoating than it is to repave.

Would you explain your sealcoating process?
1.) First, we prepare your driveway by cutting back grass edges and power blowing the surface clear of any dirt or debris.2.) We then repair damages, filling large cracks with rubberized crack filler, and treating oil/gas/grease stains with a petroleum sealant.
3.) Once the surface is cleaned and repaired, we apply a coat of high quality custom coal tar sand mix sealer by brush.
4.) After we have finished sealcoating, we block off the driveway with string and a DR Driveway sign. We recommend vehicles, people and pets stay off the surface for a full 48 hours.

Why Brush On Sealcoating?
Brush on sealcoating is more durable and longer lasting than spray on sealcoating. It is laid down thicker on the driveway and is a better protectant than spray on. Brush on sealcoating gets worked into all of the pores of the asphalt surface, providing important protection from the freeze/thaw cycle of nature's elements.Aesthetically, the neatness and detail achieved with brush on sealcoating is superior. When it's first applied, it is a shiny black, turning flat black when completely dry. Another added benefit to brush on sealcoating is that it does not track into your home or business the way many spray sealants do.

What is the difference between Hot and Cold Patchwork? Which is right for my driveway?
Hot patchwork is used on pavement that is full of cracks and breaking up badly, or on a large or wide crack. DR Driveway fixes this by cutting the crack larger and removing the old asphalt to clean the area and prepare it for patching. Hot asphalt is then applied to fill the void. Once the new patch is in, the seam is filled with crack filler before sealcoating. (This process is more costly than cold patch due to the removal and preparation of the area for the new asphalt. Regularly sealcoating your driveway will greatly reduce the likelihood that you would require this type of patchwork.)Cold patchwork is for smaller problems; an example would be a small hole in the driveway. Cold patch is generally a temporary fix, but when done correctly it can last for several years. DR Driveway fills the problem area with a quality cold patch, tamps it down and follows with crack filler to bind the patch to the existing surface.

How do I know I'm getting a good deal on sealcoating?
DR Driveway Sealcoating believes that it's always a good idea to comparison shop. In fact, we encourage you to get estimates from a other companies prior to selecting your sealcoater - but we also want you to be cautious. Price alone shouldn't be your deciding factor. There are companies that will sealcoat for 10¢ per square foot, but their product is so watered down, that it washes and wears off within a few months. When you comparison shop, be sure to ask prospective sealcoaters what products they use. Don't be fooled by companies claiming to give you a lot for very little, because you will get exactly what you pay for - very little. Very little quality, very little service and very little product. You can rest assured that at DR Driveway Sealcoating, we use only the best products available so you get the best for your asphalt. Great service and quality products for a reasonable price - that's what we call a bargain!
You can read about the high quality products we use on our Products & Services page.
